Meta Snapshot 3/16/2026
Greetings, fellow 40K enthusiasts! It's late in the week, but better late than never. I'm here to share with you which factions dominated the meta over the past weekend.
You may have determined from the subtle clue that Necrons were the top faction of the weekend. They were, and the next in line was not particularly close. Over the weekend, Necron players took in 4 First Place results, 2 Second Place results, and 1 Third Place result. Five different detachments were represented in this spread. Awakened Dynasty lists got 2 of the First Place results. Starshatter Arsenal picked up the 2 Second Place results. Pantheon of Woe and Hypercrypt Legion each took 1 of the First Place results, and Canoptek Court got the Third Place result. One of the Starshatter Second Place results and the Canoptek Third Place result were scored at the biggest event of the weekend, The Colorado Cup '26 - Warhammer 40K with 190 players.
The second most dominant faction over the weekend was T'au Empire, beating Astra Militarum by a nose. T'au lists accounted for 2 First Place results (1 Kauyon, 1, Auxiliary Cadre), 1 Second Place result (Mont'ka) and 1 Third Place result (also Mont'ka).
The third most dominant faction of the weekend was Astra Militarum, picking up 2 First Place and 2 Third Place results. All those high scoring lists used the Grizzled Company detachment.
After that comes Space Marines with 2 First Place results and one Third Place result, though I consider them two factions at this point, because Ultramarines have effectively become the 5th divergent chapter. The 2 First Place results were scored by a Salamanders Firestorm Assault Force and an Iron Hands Hammer of Avernii, which was the First Place Result at Colorado Cup '26. The Third Place result was an Ultramarines Blade of Ultramar.
Then comes Tyranids, with Vanguard scoring 1 Second Place result and Invasion Fleet scoring 1 Second Place and 1 Third Place result.
After Nids, in no particular order:
First Place lists
Admech Haloscreed, Custodes Talons of the Emperor, Imperial Knights Valorous Lance
Second Place lists
Drukhari Spectacle of Spite, Chaos Knights Infernal Lance, Aeldari Spirit Conclave, Blood Angels Rage-cursed Onslaught, Grey Knights Warpbane Task Force, Adeptus Sororitas Hallowed Martyrs, Chaos Space Marines Huron's Marauders, Black Templars Gladius
Third Place Lists
2x Deathwatch Black Spear Task Force, Custodes Talons of the Emperor, Custodes Solar Spearhead, Aeldari Spirit Conclave, Genestealer Cult Outlander Claw, Adeptus Sororitas Hallowed Martyrs
That's the snapshot of the meta. If you take away anything from it, it's that going into the weekend you'll need to be prepared to deal with Necrons if you're attending any events. If you are, good luck to you! I hope this helps.
