Chapter Review 2/16/2026
Greetings honored battle brethren! It was a slow weekend for 40K due no doubt to Saturday being Valentine's Day and 40K not really considered a big couple activities. There were a few events for unrepentant bachelors though, and one of our number went 4-1 at one of them, giving us something to discuss. So, without further ado, let's check out that list.
Our one list this week is Jason Matheson's Wrath of the Rock list that he took to Club Championships 2026 held in Kingston, Ontario, where he took 5th place out of 32 players. You can see Jason's list on BCP. We'll discuss it below.
Tournament list
Lion Dad - Warlord
Azrael
Chaplain in Terminator Armour: Deathwing Assault
Lieutenant
Lieutenant with Combi-weapon
Intercessor Squad: 5 bolter boys
Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky macey boys
Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky macey boys
Gladiator Lancer
Hellblaster Squad: 10 plasma boys
Incursor Squad: 5 spotty boys
Repulsor Executioner
Scout Squad: 5 sneaky lads
Jason started his list off with a pretty solid spread of conventionally chose units. He's got Lion Dad, ?Azrael, the pair of Deathwing Knight squads, a Combi-Lieutenant, an Intercessor Squad, and a Scout Squad. He picked a Terminator Chaplain to attach to one of his Deathwing Knight units. Both have maces, but the Chaplain's +1 To Wound will still be helpful into high-Toughness infantry, like Deathshroud Terminators.
To supplement his punchy units, Jason has a pretty robust shooting element. He's gone with a Repulsor Executioner and a Gladiator Lancer as his long-range anti-tank. Those platforms have some high-power, high-damage long range shots, plus a pile of secondary guns that afford Jason a pile of dice to roll at chaff. The Executioner has an underwhelming datsheet ability, but it is Toughness 12 with 16 Wounds and OC 5, so he can park it on his expansion objective and pretty much command the table within a 24" radius.
Rounding out the shooting element, Jason has a 10-man Hellblaster squad, which is a bit of an unconventional choice, but it gives him a shooting solution to use against targets that the tanks might whiff into - particularly targets with Invulnerable saves. Sometimes opponents will spike their 4+ Invulnerable saves against a small amount of high-power shots, but such targets can often be swamped by a high volume of Damage 2 shots. It also explains the inclusion of the Lieutenant and the Incursors. Attaching both Azrael and the Lieutenant to the Hellblasters gives both Lethal and Sustained Hits, and if he Oaths their target and plinks them with his Incursors first, then Jason can freely fish for those 6's to hit secure in the knowledge he's unlikely to make his roll worse by doing so. Also the two characters give the squad a couple of harder hitting melee weapons, though Jason went with the master crafted power weapon and storm shield, which isn't as good a weapon as a power fist, but does give the Lieutenant his own Invulnerable save. Azrael confers Deathwing to the unit, so they're an eligible target for Leonine Aggression, and also not a bad target for Relics of the Dark Age. Going from Strength 8 to Strength 10 gets the squad past some important break points.
Jason started off the event with an oddly low-scoring 37-27 in the 1st round against Kabalite Drukhari - maybe his opponent was a slow player - but a win is a win. 2nd round he squeaked out a 53-51 win against Salamanders Firestorm. 3rd round he suffered a 62-78 loss against Ultramarines Ironstorm. 4th round he spanked Valourstrike Knights 78-38. He wrapped up the event with another low-score win, 39-22 against Cursed Legion Necrons. Well done Jason!
Statistics
As I mentioned previously, it wasn't a very busy weekend for events. We had 11 players who played 57 events and won 22 of them, for a dismal 40% win rate, but I suspect the sample size is too small for us to draw any useful conclusions from it. We did have the one X/1 result.
Eight players played Wrath of the Rock, earning a 46% win rate and the one X-result
Two players played the Gladius for a 37% win rate
One player didn't post his list. He didn't win any games, but he did seem to play all of them.
That, honored battle brethren, is what I have for you this week. Be sure to check out Dank List Wargaming and Black Crow Gaming on YouTube for Dark Angels content created by real enthusiasts for the legion chapter. It's good to be back! I'm looking forward to a new year, both for putting my skills to the test and bringing you the news of our beloved army. As always, I hope you find my work enjoyable and informative. May we all strive ever for glorious victory! For The Lion!
