Lists of the Week: 5/5/2025
Hello battle brethren! We've been through another weekend, and with it I bring you the
The first one I stumbled across was played at The Collectors Market - Drop Bear Gaming 40k GT played in QLD, Australia, a 5-round, 28 player event. Mat Dorey went 4-1 with a Stormlance Task Force and took 3rd place. You can see Mat's list on BCP, with our discussion of it below.
Dark and Stormy
Azrael - Warlord
Lieutenant with Combi-bolter
Ravenwing Command Squad
Assault Intercessor Squad: 5 choppy boys

Gladiator Lancer
Outrider Squad: 3 choppy biker boys
Scout Squad: 5 sneaky lads
Scout Squad: 5 sneaky lads
This is a pretty conventional Dark Angels Stormlance. There's the 3 squads of Deathwing Knights, 3 squads of Jump Intercessors, some Assault Intercessors for Azrael to hang with, Intercessors to sticky objectives, a shooting element which in this case is a Ballistus and a Lancer, a little more than the token Mounted unit presence, with a Ravenwing Command Squad to join to a squad of 3 Outriders, and a couple Scout Squads to do their secondary-scoring work. It's a little unusual to not see a squad of Inner Circle Companions and a Judiciar, but it's not like the list lacks for melee punch.
Sadly, Mat's loss came in the 1st round, 47-76 against a Necron Obeisance Phalanx. Round 2 onward Mat rode the win train all the way to the last stop. 2nd round he crushed Liberator Blood Angels 93-42. 3rd round he got a solid 96-70 against a Militarum Mechanised Assault list. 4th round he had a close 63-51 against Angelic Inheritors Blood Angels. 5th round he got a solid 89-70 against Talons of the Emperor Custodes.
The other list we're looking at this week was played at the São Paulo GT 2025, played in São Paulo Brazil, a 5-round, 29 player event. Matheus Damas of The Warhounds went 4-1 with a Stormlance Task Force and took 2nd place! You can see Matheus' list on BCP, and we'll discuss it below.
Host of Blades
Lion Dad - Warlord
Azrael
Judiciar: Feinting Withdrawal

Matheus really went all-in on punching things to death, with no significant shooting assets, but boy has he got melee assets! It's not unusual to see 3 squads of DWKs in a DA Stormlance, but Lion Dad is less common, and while 1 squad of ICCs is pretty normal, 2 squads is a lot. Though, it averages out the lack of any ICCs in the last list. Reckon Azrael goes with 1 of the ICC squads and the Judiciar with the other, giving Matheus a lot of scary Fights First between the Judi-led ICCs and Lion Dad.
The rest of the list is fairly unremarkable. Intercessors to sit on and sticky the backfield objective, Scouts, JPIs, and the Combi-Lieutenant for utility work. Matheus didn't include even a token Mounted unit in his list, but he didn't seem to suffer for it.
Stating that Matheus started strong is an understatement, because in the 1st round he absolutely dumpstered T'au Retaliation Cadre 100-10! Assuming the T'au player's army was battle ready, that means Matheus maxed his score and kept his opponent from scoring any points at all! What happened? 2nd round Matheus scored a very convincing 100-62 versus a Dark Angels Gladius. 3rd round Matheus took his loss, 59-92 against Lions Custodes played by the event winner. Round 4 he squeaked out a 70-69 win against another Lions Custodes list. 5th round he also won by a very thin margin, 88-84 against Righteous Crusader Templars.
I just want to point out that Matheus won games by both the widest and slimmest margins possible in the same event. I just think that's kind of funny.
Statistics
So I went through all the event listings on BCP one-by-one to find the ones where a Dark Angels list performed well. Then I figured out how to use the new Meta Monday tables to find the names of those events. Now that I know that, it'll be way easier next time!
Dark Angels as a whole had a 43% win rate over last weekend, which is pretty bad. 27 players played 134 games and won 58 of them. We had 2 X/1 results and no event wins.
The Stormlance was the most played detachment with 11 players, and scored both the X/1 results. It only had a 43% win rate overall though.
Next up in order of most played is the Gladius, with 10 players, who collectively earned a 50% win rate.
The Vanguard and the Inner Circle detachments each had 2 players. The Vanguard got a 33% win rate, and the Inner Circle got a dismal 20%.
One player each played the Unforgiven Task Force and the Company of Hunters. Both of them scored a 40% win rate.
Factions and Detachments To Watch Out For
The Emperor's Children Coterie of the Conceited detachment only had 16 players, but those players had a 65% win rate, 6 X-results, and 3 event wins. It's probably a little too early to declare them overpowered, but that sure is a strong start.
The Custodes Lions of the Emperor detachment had 37 players who earned a 55% win rate, 11 X-results, and 1 event win.
The Imperial Knights Noble Lance had 32 players who took a 57% win rate, 10 X-results, and 1 event win.
The Aeldari Devoted of Ynnead detachment continues to put up impressive results, with 21 players, a 56% win rate, 6 X-results, and 2 event wins
That, honored battle brethren, is what I have for you. Follow my blog if you like my work, and check out my buds on Dank List Wargaming. May we all aspire to glorious victory. For the Lion!
