Lists of the Week: 12/2/2024
The event in question was 40Kings Cup in Emden, Germany, a 5-round, 50 player event. The event was won by Sebastian Müller of Groundzero Kiel, who went undefeated with his Gladius Task Force. You can see Sebastian's list on BCP. The short version is below.

Infiltrator Squad: 5 sneaky stay-off-my-lawn boys
Inner Circle Companions: 6 spooky awesome swordy boys
Scout Squad: 5 sneaky lads
This is a fairly conventional list. It leans a little hard into assault with 5 squads of DWKs, the ICCs with Azrael attached, and Lion Dad. The pair of Lancers do provide some pretty significant long-ranged firepower for taking down bigger targets, and also a bucket of dice to throw at chaff. There are the Infiltrators to keep opposing units away from the backfield objective, and one squad of Scouts for uppy-downy secondary scoring.
This event used WTC scoring. Just a reminder, it's a 0-20 range. 0-20 is a crushing defeat, 10-10 is a draw, 20-0 is an overwhelming victory.
Sebastian rode the win train all the way to the last stop. 1st round he drubbed Blood Angels 16-4. 2nd round he eked out an 11-9 win over Adeptus Mechanicus. 3rd round he thrashed Aeldari 19-1. 4th round he crushed Chaos Daemons 20-0. 5th round he ended strong with a similarly overwhelming 20-0 against Necrons.
The other list for us to look at this week was played at WARPSTORM GT CYPRUS played at Limassol, Cyprus. At this 36 players. 5 round event, Todor Mitev of Team Bulgaria went 4-1 and took 3rd place with his Gladius Task Force. You can seek Todor's list on BCP. The short version is below.

Sisters of Battle Immolator
Sisters of Battle Squad: 10 gun nuns
The thing that jumped out at me the most about this list is the inclusion of the Sisters of Battle units. In over a year of reviewing top lists, I don't think I've ever seen a Dark Angels player include any non-Dark Angels units, with the exception of the Callidus Assassin for her uppy-downy shenanigans. This was not an inconsequential investment in points either, with both the Sisters of Battle Squad and the Immolator costing 115 points each, for a total of 230 points. That's most of the way to a third Deathwing Knights squad. That said, those points bought Todor 3 units, because the Immolator allowed him to split the Sisters squad into 2 units, deploying half in the Immolator and half on the table. I'm guessing 5 Sisters with boltguns sat on the backfield objective, while the Sister Superior, a melta-Sister, a multimelta-Sister, and 2 boltgun Sisters rode in the Immolator. The Immolator itself is a pretty respectable tank, packing a twin linked multimelta, heavy bolter, and hunter-killer missile. The Immolator can strip cover from a target it shot, and not just for Imperial Agents shooting, but everything in Todor's army. The Sisters squad, in addition to bringing some melta to the party, can sticky objectives, and once per game can have Command Reroll played on it for free. All in all, it's a pretty efficient package that brings a lot of value to the army.
The rest of the army is pretty conventional, save for including Asmodai, who we don't usually see. He's not a bad addition though. In combat he's fairly efficient, having both a Strike and Sweep mode, and most remarkable for a Chaplain he's got AP -2 for both modes. He grants full To Hit rerolls in combat, forces Character units within 6" of him to take Battle-shock tests at -1, and generates CP when he kills characters. His only failing is that he only has 4 wounds, but for 70 points I'm not going to complain about that too much. I can't quite figure if he gets attached to the ICCs or to the Assault Intercessors. A case could be made either way. If I had to guess, I'd say he probably gets attached to the ICCs, with Azrael being attached to the Assault Intercessors.
This event also used WTC scoring.
1st round Todor crushed Chaos Daemons 20-0. 2nd round he similarly smashed Space Marines (Salamanders in this case) 20-0. 3rd round he had his loss, 9-11, against Imperial Agents of all things. 4th round he went back to crushing, 20-0 against Leagues of Votann. He must have been tired by the 5th round, because he merely drubbed Adeptus Custodes 16-4.
Dang. Maybe we should all be using Asmodai.
Statistics
26 players took Dark Angels to GTs or larger events. They collectively played 130 games and won 54 of them, for a 42% win rate. That's not what you'd call good by any metric, but at least for this weekend 6 armies had it worse. We had 2 players go X/0-X/1 and 1 event winner.
The most played detachment was the Gladius Task force, with 16 players, a 44% win rate, and both the high scoring lists.
Next most played was the Inner Circle Task Force, with 5 players and a 32% win rate.
After that, 2 players used the Unforgiven Task Force and got a 25% win rate. Looks like one of those players dropped after the first day, because Meta Monday only has 8 games being played.
1 player each played an Ironstorm Spearhead, a Company of Hunters, and a Stormlance Task Force. Respectively, they went 3-2, 3-3, and 2-3.
That, honorable battle brethren, is the weekend roundup. Follow me to keep up with my articles, and check out Dank List Wargaming on YouTube. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new detachment performs next week, but it may take a bit before we see what it's capable of. If you give it a try, I hope you can take it to glorious victory! For the Lion!
