Lists of the Week: Top Performers 11/25/2024

Hello battle brethren! The Warhammer 40,000 World Championship wasn't the only event that ran last weekend! Events took place all over the world, and unlike at the World Championship, Dark Angels lists were able to shine! We had 1 event winner and 5 X/0 or X/1 lists! Not a bad weekend for the First Legion chapter.  Let's take a look at those lists! The event winner is the obvious one to start with. It rose to the top at the Obsec presents the 10th Annual Perth 40k GT in Perth Australia, a 6-round, 64 player event. Callum German went 6-0 with his Gladius Task Force. You can see Callum's list on BCP. The short version is below.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XH-8zgGNAlg There isn't going to be enough Garlic Bread in all of Tasmania with NSW bringing a 54 person squad!?!?!  (This is what he put as the title)  Azrael - Warlord Lieutenant with Combi-weapon Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying choppy boys Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying ch...

Lists of the Week: 2024 Warhammer 40,000 World Championships of Warhammer

Image
Hello battle brethren! This is a special week because the 2024 Warhammer 40,000 World Championships of Warhammer was held in Atlanta, GA! This was one of the biggest events of the year - 8 rounds, with 268 players. Three Dark Angels lists made it into the top bracket, so I'm dedicating a post just to their lists.  That said, Dark Angels lists did not perform spectacularly at this event. The highest scoring list was in 75th place, which doesn't even place it in the top quarter of lists. That said, these are the top performing Dark Angels lists at the event where literally the best players in the world were invited to attend. Being in the upper 50% of that crowd is probably a more significant achievement than being the top player at a GT with less than 30 players in it.  Switzerland's Antonio Mejias took a Gladius Task Force and went 5-3, winding up in 75th place. You can see Antonio's list on BCP. The short version is below. We are just neutral Azrael: Warlord Heav...

Hello battle brethren! Another weekend has passed, and with it success to the First Legion chapter! We didn't have any event winners, but a Dark Angels list did go undefeated at the second-biggest event of the weekend, and a few more performed well. Let's take a look at them! Our first list took 2nd place at the Utah Open Warhammer 40K Tournament, held in  Provo, UT. At this 6-round, 97-player event, Evan Stump of Red Rock Renegades went 6-0 with his Gladius Task Force. You can see Evan's list on BCP. The short version is below. 2x repex (spoilers!) Further Adventures with the Company of Hunters

Image
Hello battle brethren! I've been continuing my effort at making the Company of Hunters work. It hasn't been great thus far, but I have been making it work better. Of course, after the GT at The Portal I practically had nowhere to go but up, but I do think I improved the list and am starting to use it better.  The picture actually doesn't show the version of the list I've been using since the GT. I made some modifications following that event. Here's the short version. Secret Missions Are Fun! V1.2 Azrael Sammael Ravenwing Command Squad: Master of Manouevre (Warlord) Ravenwing Command Squad: Recon Hunter Techmarine Outrider Squad: 3 chonky biker boys Outrider Squad: 3 chonky biker boys Assault Intercessor Squad: 5 choppy boys Infiltrator Squad: 5 sneaky boys Ravenwing Black Knights: 6 awesome biker boys Ravenwing Black Knights: 6 awesome biker boys Ravenwing Darkshroud Vindicator Vindicator Vindicator Callidus Assassin The big difference with this list from the previ...

Know the Foe: Thousand Sons Cult of Magic

Azrael knows how to beat them! Hello battle brethren! Welcome to the second article in the Know the Foe series. Since I've already recently released articles about the other two armies at the top of the meta, the Thousand Sons seemed like the next most obvious army to cover.  Author's note: I wrote most of this article before the Q4 balance release. TSons got hit pretty hard with points increases since then. I went through and edited the points, but TSons aren't as dominant in the meta as they once were. Stat-check.com still has them at a 54% win rate though, so you may well still see them across the table from you. Can't hurt to know what to expect! Author's note 2: I showed this article to Ben Rubenstein, who is a friend, and who was the 13th placed single player at the NATC 8-Player Team Event, having gone undefeated with his pre-nerf TSons at that event. I'm using his feedback to improve the article. Army Rule: Cabal of Sorcerers The Thousand Sons army rul...

Lists of the Week: Top Performers 11/4/2024

Hello battle brethren! It was a good weekend for Dark Angels! We had two event winners and four other players rank highly at events. It certainly appears that our top players are managing with the points increased inflicted on us. Without further ado, let's take a look at what they're doing.  Beginning with our event winners, I'll start with Jak Payne, who took a Stormlance Task Force to go 5-0 and take first place at the Dark Sphere November GT, a 5-round, 64-player event held in England. You can see Jak's list on BCP. The short version is below. Dark and Stormy Lion Dad Azrael Judiciar Lieutenant with Combi-weapon Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying choppy boys Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying choppy boys Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky macey boys Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky macey boys Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky macey boys Infiltrator Squad: 5 sneaky boys Inner Circle Companions: 6 spooky awesome swordy boys Inner Circl...
