Unit Review: Lion Dad

Image
Hello battle brothers! It's been a couple months since the Balance Dataslate raised out fortunes, so I thought I'd talk about some of the units that are making it into competitive lists. One of the units that's not unusual to see is the progenitor of the legion  chapter, Lion Dad himself! The Lion brings a lot of capability to a list. He's a big 2+/3++ murder monster that has Deep Strike and can walk through walls. He's apt to kill virtually anything he can make it into combat with, he's hard to target with his conditional Lone Op, he's challenging to bring down even if an opponent can target him, and he hands out some buffs that, while not amazing, do have some value. You can put him the center of the board and have him march to midfield with some degree of confidence he'll make it there, because opponents have to chew through the units escorting him before they can target him, and they'd have to charge him with a ton of models (or activate a Figh...

Hello, battle brothers! It's Monday, which means we have the results of the weekend's tournaments. We have some very exiting results! A Dark Angels list won the biggest event of the weekend! Cam Hawkins of Imperial Outlaws went 6-0 with his Dark Angels Gladius at Texas Open 2024, a 6-round event with 104 players! Cam's was not the only event-winning list either, and there were a number of other high-placing lists, so let's dive right into it! Let's start with Cam's list , which you can see on BCP. The short version is below.  Cam-panions  (I see what you did there Cam) Azrael Apothecary Biologis (aka Harmacist): Fire Discipline Judiciar Impulsor Impulsor Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying choppy boys Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying choppy boys Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky swordy boys Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky swordy boys Eradicator Squad: 6 chonky melta boys Inner Circle Companions: 6 spooky awesome swordy boys Inner...

Hello battle brothers! Another weekend of events has passed, and with it comes word of the lists that performed well. We had one event winner and quite a few lists that went X-1, so let's dive in! I'm going to start with the list from the biggest event. In this case it literally was the biggest event of the weekend - The Leeds 40k Super Major in (presumably Leeds) England. This was a 219 player, 5-round event with the top 4 players playing off against each other. The Dark Angels list was not one of those lists, but did appear in the top 10%. Ben Jones of Vanguard Tactics went 4-1 with his Gladius to score 18th place, which in a field of over 200 players is no small thing. You can see Ben's list on BCP. The short version is below. glad Azrael Harmacist (aka Apothecary Biologis): Fire Discipline Judiciar Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying choppy boys Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying choppy boys Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky macey boys Deathwing...

Hello battle brothers! Once again, I'm here to provide you a roundup of the best performing lists of the weekend. Unfortunately, we didn't have any event winners this weekend, but we did have some undefeated players and players that went X-1, so let's get into those. By far the biggest event of the weekend was the World Team Championship held in Mechelen, Belgium. At the WTC, forty 8-man teams competed against each other. A member of the 4th placed Team Sweden, Jesper Unander-Scharin, was the 2nd place individual player, going undefeated with a Dark Angels Gladius! In the placings, his list is actually entered as Space Marines (Astartes), but I've learned to click to see those lists, because I've found they're often Dark Angels lists. You can see Jesper's list on BCP. We'll discuss it below. Jesper's List Azrael Harmacist: Fire Discipline Assault Intercessor Squad: 5 choppy boys Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying choppy boys Assault Int...

Hello battle brothers! We didn't have any event winners this week, but some of our brethren did put in impressive performances, so we have some good lists to talk about.  The first list I'm going to talk about I had to go looking for as it didn't appear in the Meta Monday roundup, but there was an X/0, X/1 result to find beyond the lists that appeared in the roundup. I do think I found that mystery list though - it was a Gladius played by James Walsh at Salt Lake Open 2024 - Warhammer 40K Championships, and it took him to 15th place out of 99 players. You can see James' list  on BCP. The short version of his list is below, and it's kind of wild! DA Gladius Azrael Apothecary Biologus: Fire Discipline Bladeguard Ancient Centurion Devastators: 3 chonky shooty grav boys Centurion Devastators: 3 chonky shooty grav boys Centurion Devastators: 3 chonky shooty grav boys Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky macey boys Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky macey boys Deathwing ...

Hello battle brothers! I'm pleased to be able to tell you that over the past weekend, we finally picked up some event wins! We've had battle brothers go undefeated at  events, but I'm pretty confident these are the first wins of the 10.5 era. It's an exciting time for a Dark Angels player! It's also nice to be able to report that one of the event wins was at the biggest event of the weekend. At the North East Open 2024 in England, Stat Check's Innes Wilson took a Gladius Task Force and rose to the top of a field of 105 players! That is a noteworthy accomplishment in any player's book! As usual, you can find  Innes' list  on BCP. The short version is below. The Same As Last Year Azrael Apothecary Biologis: Fire Discipline Judiciar: The Honour Vehement Assault Intercessor Squad: 5 choppy boys Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying choppy boys Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs: 5 flying choppy boys Deathwing Knights: 5 awesome chonky macey boys D...
